ErinoakKids Foundation is on a mission to fundraise, establish philanthropic partnerships and engage communities to support ErinoakKids in promoting the well being of children with special needs. ErinoakKids Centre for Treatment and Development (ErinoakKids) is Ontario’s largest Children’s Treatment Centre, committed to building on the strengths of children so they may achieve their potential to grow up and lead fulfilling lives. We provide a comprehensive range of clinical and family support services to 11,000 children and youth annually living in Halton, Peel, and Dufferin.
Although our programs and services are funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services, there is a need for additional funds to support other emerging (and underfunded) priorities at ErinoakKids. Unlike other larger and better known children’s charities, ErinoakKids traditionally has not received significant levels of private sector support. Each year we must stretch our limited resources to pay for rising costs, expensive treatments and new equipment.
Some of the children we serve at ErinoakKids have physical and/or developmental disabilities such as spina bifida, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome or traumatic injury; some have communication challenges or autism, and some have complex medical care requirements. We help children who are deaf or hard of hearing, and children who are blind or have low vision. All require specific programs to care for them, and support for their families.
ErinoakKids services for children with autism includes programs to help and treat the children themselves, as well as a School Support Program to help educators and school boards identify and teach children with autism, share resources and provide specialized training for school support personnel. There are also programs to help parents as they learn to cope with their child’s needs.
Our Assistive Devices Resource Services (ADRS) uses technology to help children in write, talk, or use a computer. This service also adapts toys for use by children with disabilities, and provides specialized seating and wheelchairs.
ErinoakKids provides family support services to help families of children with disabilities cope with the unique challenges and circumstances of their situation. These services include counseling, behaviour therapy, education, psychology, consultation with professionals, group programs and respite care. ErinoakKids is family-centered and community-oriented, providing medical services, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology and other services in a milieu that recognizes that while our specialists are expert in their respective fields, families are the experts in knowing their child and their family’s needs.
The ultimate goal of ErinoakKids is to help all of our children overcome challenges where possible and cope with disabilities where necessary, to reach their optimal levels of independence, health and well-being: to be all that they can be.
