The Adventures of Little J

This article was submitted to our blog by Mums ‘n Chums member Angela. If you are a member and would like to contribute to the blog, we’d love to hear from you! Contact us here for details.

My name is Angela and at the ‘ripe old age’ of 41, my husband and I had our first baby after years of trying and waiting. It was quite the adventure getting to that point.

We had been trying basically since the day we had gotten married and after a few years we decided to try a Fertility Clinic. As more time passed without a baby, we gave up and decided if it was going to happen, it would. About six months later, I was pregnant!

When I was full term we were told I needed to have a C-section and it was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, November 13. My husband wondered if they would wait until 1 p.m., which is 1300 hours military time. I laughed it off.

Lo and behold at 1:03 p.m. on Friday, November 13, our healthy daughter, “Little J” was born. She weighed in at 8 lbs, 5 ounces (which totals to 13) and her name happens to have 13 characters in it. She is our lucky 13 and I tell her she’s going to be a blackjack player one day! Coincidentally, 13 still follows her in sometimes mysterious ways- her car seat was manufactured on February 13, 2010 and her swim lesson certificate is dated for June 13, 2010. It’s scary sometimes, this “13” thing!

All in all, it has been quite the journey so far. At 41, I had basically no baby experience. I had never even changed a diaper before and even though I took a babysitting course as a teen, I don’t think I ever babysat. Most of our friends’ children are already in their late teens, or even 20’s, so we are in a unique situation!

After reading about the Mums ‘n Chums website, I was soon online checking it out and enjoying the forum and all the information on it. When Sara mentioned she was looking for blog contributors, I was intrigued. I was already writing a column for a local paper, and thought this would be an interesting avenue and a new adventure (although I had never ‘blogged’ before!).

I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences with the ‘Adventures of Little J’. The experiences are not only a lesson for her, they are a big lesson for mom and dad too!

I hope you will enjoy them and I look forward to any suggestions or comments. As well, I hope you enjoy this website. It is a great thing for local moms.

Next up…the local world of baby classes. Wow…it’s a whole new world for me.

Angela
