Local Parents - You're Not Alone!

Parents- You're Not Alone!

I had the honour of being invited to the Georgetown Early Years Centre for a speaking engagement last week, and got to meet some fab new moms!

At one point during our discussion, the conversation turned to meetup groups. We listened as a first time mom explained how much she would like to meet other new moms in her area. She commented that what stops her is how awkward she feels trying to approach them, and how it can even “feel like dating” trying to make a friend.

I so remember feeling like that. And it was that feeling that drove me to build the Mums ‘n Chums website.

I can’t stress this enough- whether you are a parent, parent-to-be or caregiver it is SO very beneficial for you to find and meet local, like-minded people experiencing the same things you are, at the same time.

Not to say that family and existing friends aren’t important, they sure are! However, there’s something special about the support you’ll get from a friend (or a group) who can more easily relate to your situation.

The Ontario Early Years Centre is a fantastic place to start. I myself found many wonderful mommy friends there. We kept in touch long after our Mother Goose group ended and still do play dates, day trips and a monthly “Girl’s Night Out”.

I want that kind of friendship for everyone out there who has little people in their lives. Of course it’s great doing fun things with the kids, but it’s just as important (and healthy!) to get some occasional “me” time and do fun and supportive activities without them.

The goal of Mums ‘n Chums is to make such friendships possible for every one of our members. I sincerely hope that you’ll take advantage of the resources we have to offer, and use our forums to connect and meet with other parents- it’s why we’re here! Keep in mind that many of our discussion boards are viewable by members only. You can easily become a member for FREE by clicking here

New groups have been created on the forum including groups for each area we serve (Halton Hills, Milton, Orangeville and surrounding areas), groups for dads, groups for parents-to-be, groups for single parents, groups for mothers experiencing PPD, for parents of newborns and for families who are coping with the loss of a child. These groups were created by popular demand from new members like you. If you have suggestions for other groups you’d like to see, you are welcome to contact us , or simply create your own group in our forum!

Welcome to Mums ‘n Chums, your local parenting network!
